Epson wins three prestigious accolades for its photo printing and scanning technology at the TIPA Awards 2006

21 April 2006

The Technical Imaging Press Association (TIPA) has awarded Epson three awards in its annual review of the best products in the digital photo imaging arena.

Epson, leader in digital imaging technology, has been presented with three of the most prestigious TIPA Awards 2006. The Epson Perfection V750 Pro scanner has been voted as the “Best Flatbed Photo Scanner in Europe 2006”, the Epson Stylus Photo RX640 as the “Best A4 Multifunction Photo Printer in Europe 2006” and Epson UltraChrome K3 ink as the “Best Printing Technology in Europe 2006”

TIPA currently has 31 member magazines, making it the largest and most influential photo and imaging press association in Europe. Widely regarded as experts, the editors of the magazines test the photo and imaging products and then meet once a year to judge the best in Europe.

“These awards verify Epson’s commitment to developing premium digital imaging technology. Our innovative research and development strives to provide premium solutions that meet the needs of photographers, amateur and professional, in the home and in the studio. We are delighted to be recognised by the TIPA panel for our innovations in the imaging industry,” says Barbara Kuhr, Head of Strategic Marketing, Epson Europe.

Commenting on the winning Epson products, the TIPA judging panel said:

Epson Perfection V750 Pro

“The new Epson Perfection V750 Pro is an excellent flatbed scanner for professional photographers and photo enthusiasts alike. It features a Dual Lens System for film scanning at a high resolution of 6400dpi and also allows reflective scanning at 4800dpi. An optical density value of 4.0 fulfils the needs of professionals, and captures detail in the darkest of shadows. An anti-reflection coating applied to the lenses eliminates reflection and ghosting, while a high reflection mirror improves the quality of the scanned light to the sensor, resulting in faster scanning speeds. Offering all film formats up to 8x10”, it’s supplied with four film holders for 35mm film strips and slides, medium and large format film. Connections are built in for either USB 2.0 or Firewire interfaces, to ensure a rapid data transfer”

Epson Stylus Photo RX640

“The Epson Stylus Photo RX640 is a combination of photo quality printer and a 3200dpi scanner with built-in transparency unit. Scanning is enhanced with Epson’s Easy Photo Fix technology, which automatically restores colour to faded photos and film. Easy Photo Fix also includes a dust and scratches removal function for negative and positive film scanning. To make printing easier than ever, Epson’s PhotoEnhance

Technology automatically detects the image type and adjusts image brightness and contrast accordingly. The high definition 2.5” PhotoFine LCD monitor also ensures easy direct-printing from memory cards and PictBridge-enabled cameras.”

Epson Ultrachrome K3

“The Epson UltraChrome K3 ink technology is a breakthrough in professional printing. It incorporates 8 new colour pigments improving the quality and durability of both colour and black & white printing. Epson printers using the K3 system can utilise two different black ink modes – Photo Black or Matte Black, and these allow the usage of a variety of media types from colour proofing stock to fine art textures. The Epson UltraChrome K3 ink is a resin-coated pigment ink that achieves a high level of longevity and durability, and the characteristics reduce metamerism effects. To support these impressive inksets, Epson offers a full range of UltraChrome K3 printers from 13” to 44” printing width.”

Lightfastness test criteria (Indoor Display Condition)

Light Source:         Fluorescent Light

Intensity:            70,000 lux

Temperature:         24°C

Humidity:           60%RH

Glass mount:         2mm, soda lime

Fade criteria:         Pure YMC 30% loss at OD = 1

Display-life calculation:  Total illuminance/ (500lux x 10hours x 365days = 1year)

This lightfastness test is a simulation of colour fading in an indoor preservation condition under fluorescent light with glass mount. The display life may vary depending on the conditions that you display your prints. Factors, other than light, such as ozone, temperature and humidity can affect the print life.
