Epson has won the Ecohitech 2007 Award in Italy. It is the ninth year for the awards which honour companies who have demonstrated eco-friendly results in hi-tech fields such as electronics, electrotechnics and ICT.
The Epson Stylus Pro 3800 won the prize in the category titled “Energy Saving and CO2 Reduction”. Epson was chosen by an authoritative jury composed of members from world institutions and business, with the following justification: “Epson Stylus Pro 3800 is a compact printer developed and produced in accordance with the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). In comparison with the previous models, the estimated CO2 emissions during the whole product life are reduced by 44% and the amount of the resources used during the production is reduced by 55%. The printer is EcoLeaf certified”.
It is the third time that Epson has won the Ecohitech Award in Italy. The first time was in 2002, for its climatic monitoring system at high altitudes on the Himalaya Range, developed by Epson Meteo (Epson Italy). The second time was in 2003, for the programme, launched by Seiko Epson Corporation; to eliminate the lead from welding alloys in its products. The scheme enabled Epson to achieve this important goal two years ahead of the provisions of European legislation, set as 1 July 2006.
The award was devised by the Ecoqual’It and Eurotech Consortium with the support of high profile public authorities such as the Italian Government (Ministero dell’Ambiente e della Tutela del Territorio e del Mare) and with the backing of WWF Italia. This year the award was assigned in 3 categories: Electric and Electronic Processes and Products, Systems and Services to manage the end-of-life of electrical and electronic products; Energy saving, eco-design, Co2 Reduction.
The prize-awarding event took place in Milan (Italy) on Monday 29 October 2007.
